Duracoat is little more than a strong paint, whereas Cerakote is a ceramic-based product that chemically bonds with the material it is applied to. The curing process is much quicker with Cerakote than Duracoat, typically 3-5 days opposed to 3 weeks. Cerakote also has lubricating properties built into it so you don't need to polish the contact areas. If you're serious about protecting your firearm then Cerakote is the only choice.
